Larry King: ‘CNN Stopped Doing News A Long Time Ago’

arry King, who hosted CNN’s longest-running program “Larry King Live” for 25 years, has some harsh criticism for the current content of his former employer.

“CNN stopped doing news a long time ago,” he said Wednesday on RT America. “They do Trump. Fox is Trump TV and MSNBC is anti-Trump all the time.”

King, who currently hosts “Larry King Now” and “Politicking with Larry King” on Hulu, Ora TV and RT America, is right about that. Cable news has turned into an echo chamber, with each channel spinning the news, selectively choosing which news to broadcast and leaving out crucial information that does not fit their narrative.

There are few shows that will actually debate substantive policy ideas and bring on qualified individuals to debate topics for viewers to make up their own mind rather than being told what to think.

King gave a specific empirical example for how CNN refuses to cover other stories and instead chooses to focus all their energy on President Donald Trump.  “There [were] vicious winds and storms in the Northeast the other day, not covered on any of the three cable networks. Not covered,” he said. “So when CNN started covering Trump — they were the first — they covered every speech he made and then they made Trump the story. So, Trump is the story in America. I guess it’s to their regret.”

Historically, journalists did not reveal their party affiliation and would refuse to discuss their political opinions on air. They would not engage in identity politics and would not encourage viewers to think a certain way. Certainly they did have opinions, but they would sincerely try to separate their opinions from their reporting of the facts. How the times have changed.
