President Trump has responded to Taylor Swift’s first political endorsement, telling DailyMail.com on Monday, “Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, okay?”
Pop icon Taylor Swift, 28, broke her political silence Sunday in an Instagram post in which she posted a picture captioned that she had registered to vote in Tennessee and that she was endorsing Democratic candidate Phil Bredesen as opposed to GOP candidate Marsha Blackburn. The reason Swift cited for her endorsement was being “terrified” by Blackburn’s voting record regarding LGBTQ rights and the Violence Against Women Act.
While some suspect the endorsement comes due to the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Swift’s candidate of choice was one of the few Democrats who voiced support for Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Swift has remained politically silent for years, and sparked controversy when she posted a picture of herself voting in the 2016 election but would not use her influence to announce who she was voting for. Now, Republicans are angry with her silence break.
Several fans took to twitter to announce their disappointment in the singer getting political.
@taylorswift13 the one reason why I liked Taylor Swift as an artist was because I believed that she did not need to voice her political opinions. I am very disappointed as a black man whose daughter idolizes you. Why does everyone feel a need to voice their political opinion?
@taylorswift13 So disappointed that you decided to play politics:(. I thought you were brilliant when you said, I am not going to tell people who to vote for, but I will encourage them to vote. With all the divide in this country, you were only place where politics didn’t matter.
Others saw the Instagram post as a continuation of the feud the singer has with Kanye West, who is known to be one of Hollywood’s only Trump supporters.
Hey @taylorswift13 –
You just endorsed a Democrat in the Tennessee senate race with a ridiculous statement saying Marsha Blackburn, a woman, is against women
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
Your career has never recovered since Kanye ended it
Taylor Swift wrote a thoughtful post about racism, sexism & LGBTQ Rights on Instagram. Its either a sign of personal growth…OR SHE FOUND A WAY TO DESTROY KANYE.
Still others compared Swift’s announcement with her many break-up songs.
Taylor Swift: Look what you made me do.
GOP: You belong with me?
Taylor Swift: Bad blood.
GOP: Don’t blame me.
Taylor Swift: We are never ever getting back together.
GOP: Reputation?
Taylor Swift: Ready for it.
GOP: Shake it off?
Taylor Swift: End game.
GOP: Blank space

Swift’s endorsement of Bredesen came the same day a CBS poll revealed Blackburn holds an 8-point lead over him. It’s unlikely Taylor’s squad will be able to close the gap.
